A skin and eye irritant; Single oral doses 100-150 mg/kg in pregnant rats have produced teratogenic effects; [HSDB] A skin sensitizer; [Quick CPC] The acid form (2,4-D) is used as representative of the salts and esters due to close similarities in relative toxicities; A severe eye irritant; [Reference #1] Causes other hemolysis with or without anemia and changes in other blood cell count in acute toxic-dose studies of rats; Causes hypoglycemia, pigmented or nucleated red blood cells, and changes in blood serum composition, other tranferases, catalases, other proteins, and thyroid weight in repeated dose studies of rats; [RTECS] May cause irritation; Harmful by ingestion; [Aldrich MSDS] See "2,4D."
